Steve Mullins earned a Master of Music degree in Musicology from the University of Colorado, where his thesis dealt with the mandolin orchestra tradition in the US. He has also done doctoral field research in Venezuela. He currently performs with the groups Laughing Hands, The New Land Balkan Band, the Candela Pura Flamenco troupe, and The New Mandolin Quartet. Steve has pioneered the use of mandolin in Spanish flamenco in his performance and recording work with the Rene Heredia Flamenco-Fusion band. He and his brother tour annually to perform in school assemblies nationwide where they present a program of "instruments and music from around the world." He is also the director of The Worldbeat Music and Dance Festival in Longmont Colorado. *
