Steve Kaufman was introduced to music by his father and mother, jazz and classically trained pianists, respectively. At the age of four, he began learning to play piano and later moved to the cello. At 10 was playing the guitar, but after a few years of "strumming," he put the guitar under his bed. At 14, Steve started "picking" the guitar and later took up the mandolin. Steve's music covers a broad range of styles including bluegrass favorites, popular swing standards, Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes, folk and country classics and novelty tunes. He has been pleasing crowds from California to Austria since 1976, performing in a wide variety of settings from elementary schools and colleges to major bluegrass festivals and concerts. He keeps busy writing instructional manuals for Mel Bay Publications plus audio and video instructional material for Homespun Tapes. Steve has an extensive recording career, performance and workshop touring agenda and a full schedule of private students in Maryland. *
