Danny Carnahan has been performing and recording Celtic music for more than 20 years. Playing octave mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and singing. This fall, he released his tenth album, this time with six top-flight Celtic, jazz, and eclectic acoustic colleagues, both band and CD titled Wake the Dead, on Grateful Dead/Arista Records. Wake the Dead folds together the surprisingly traditional-shaped songs of the Grateful Dead with jigs, reels and airs culled from the Celtic tradition. Mandolin enthusiasts across the country will recognize at least one Wake the Dead band member: Paul Kotapish, best known in recent years for his work with Kevin Burke's Open House and the Hillbillies From Mars. Danny is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he works as a studio producer, college instructor, aspiring mystery novelist, and writer for various music publications.
